MANILA – Calata Corp formalized its venture into the food processing business with the acquisition of a controlling stake in the meat business of the Galicia Group.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, the Bulacan-based farm input distributor said it purchased a controlling interest in the meat business of the Galicia group as well as its existing facilities.
For more than a decade, the Galicia group is the exclusive supplier of pork, beef and chicken meat to SM Supermarkets under the “SM Bonus” brand. It is also a major supplier of Puregold supermarkets.
“This acquisition, along with the company’s existing animal farming and animal feeds business, is a major component of the company’s completion of its farm-to-plate business model with its existing, solidifying its position as an integrated and leading agribusiness player in the Philippines,” Calata said.
Calata recently came out with its own feeds brand as a result of its tie-up with a leading Chinese agribusiness firm New Hope Group.
Calata is the Philippines’ biggest combined distributor of agro-chemicals, fertilizers, seeds and veterinary medicines from manufacturers.
