A suspect wanted in connection with an early morning homicide in Belvidere Saturday, Nov. 30, has turned himself in to police.

Anthony Perez, 19, has been charged with first-degree murder and is lodged in the Boone County Jail on $10 million bond in the shooting death of 18-year-old Giovanni Galicia.

Galicia was shot several times while he sat in a car in the 2100 block of Lake Shore Drive just after midnight.

Police said Perez, a known gang member, was in a vehicle that led Boone County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase into Rockford after the shooting.

Ricardo Figueroa, 22, and 22-year-old Cheyanne Patton, were arrested after the chase.

Perez fled the vehicle and escaped. He turned himself in to Belvidere Police at 6:30 p.m., Saturday.

Another suspect was chased in the area of Spring Creek and Perryville roads, where he was shot in the leg by a deputy. The suspect was transported to a Rockford hospital and is expected to survive. His name has not been released.

Figueroa has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a street gang member. He is lodged in the Boone County Jail on a $200,000 bond.

Patton was arrested on unrelated warrants out of Kane and DeKalb counties and is awaiting extradition.

Because the incident spanned two counties and a suspect was shot by an officer, the case is being investigated by the Winnebago-Boone Integrity Task Force.

First-degree murder is punishable by 20 years to life in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Unlawful use of a weapon by a street gang member is a Class 3 felony, punishable by three to seven years in prison.
