The purpose of the Green Education grant is to enable the education of children from low-income families

Given the increase in the number of applications received and the current economic climate, EDPR has decided to double the number of grants for the third year running.

EDP Renewables (EDP Renewables, Euronext: EDPR), a global leader in the renewable energy sector and the world’s third-largest wind energy producer, has awarded its Green Education grants.

This year 63 grants, with a total value of €42,000, have been awarded. The company selects the recipients from more than 350 applications received from all the Autonomous Regions in which EDP Renewables has a presence.

The students chosen are from the municipalities of Gandesa, Batea and Corbera d’Ebre in Catalonia; Cañete La Real and Los Corrales in Andalusia; and Zas and Vilaiva in Galicia.

13 grants were awarded to students in Gandesa, 4 in Batea and 7 in Corbera d’Ebre, totalling 24 grants in Catalonia. 37 grants were awarded in Andalusia, 22 in Cañete La Real and 15 in Los Corrales. One student in Zas and one student in Vilaiva (Galicia) received a grant.

Green Education is a programme supported by EDP Renewables which provides economic aid to underprivileged students and families. The grants are awarded in accordance with the families’ per capita income and the students’ academic performance.

The third edition of Green Education in Spain is being very well received by the local councils involved. The grants are awarded in phases in each community, and the mayors and schools in each locality are involved in the process.

João Paulo Costeira, CEO of EDP Renewables Europe said “EDP Renewables’ commitment to society and future generations continues to grow and, accordingly, we continually seek initiatives to support. This year we received more applications than ever before which means that we are already getting to work on the 2014 edition.”
