Santiago de Compostela, Spain, Sep 23 (EFE).- The winning bid from the international auction to build flotels will be revealed in November, Mexican state-owned oil giant Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex, said Monday.
The winner of the contract to build the floating hotels was originally supposed to be revealed on Sept. 18, Pemex said in a statement.
Cost and efficiency will be the main factors in determining which company wins the contract, the state-owned oil company said.
The flotels are needed to house the more than 17,000 people working on offshore oil projects, Pemex said.
The board of directors decided to put the contract to build the flotels up for bidding internationally, Pemex said.
Alberto Nuñez Feijoo, president of the government of the northwestern Spanish region of Galicia, presided over the signing of contracts worth nearly 300 million euros (about $400 million) with Pemex on Sept. 19, 2012, for the construction of two flotels at shipyards in the Galician port cities of Ferrol and Vigo.
The twin flotels will weigh 7,000 tons and have the capacity to house 600 people.
