Vigo, Spain, Jun 23 (EFE).- A delegation of government officials from the Mexican state of Yucatan led by Economic Development Secretary David Alpizar is visiting the northwestern Spanish region of Galicia to explore business opportunities in logistics and trade, especially in the renewable energy and agricultural industries.

The delegation is visiting Spain in response to an invitation made in April by Galician regional government president Alberto Nuñez Feijoo.

The delegation learned firsthand about logistics infrastructure in the ports of Vigo and La Coruña.

The Mexican officials’ initial impressions were “impactful,” Alpizar said.

The delegation visited Barcelona and the eastern city of Zaragoza before arriving in Galicia, but the northwest Spanish region is “in a better position” for any hypothetical competition to establish trade ties with Yucatan because its port and logistics networks are “more complete,” Alpizar said.

The delegation plans to visit the logistics centers in the ports of La Coruña and Vigo to obtain information that can be used to develop Puerto Progreso in Yucatan, Alpizar said.
