The Government of Galicia has reasserted its support to Pescanova and expressed its certainty that this entrepreneur group “is viable just because it is a unique project.”

“As far as we are concerned, we do not see any possibility of separating Pescanova into parts,” said the Minister of Economy and Industry of the Xunta de Galicia, Francisco Conde, noting the “comprehensive” feature of the Galician multinational firm.

In addition, he commented that the Galician Executive remains in contact with the reorganisation administrator, Deloitte, and with the company itself “so as to collaborate with the project,” the agency Europa Press reported.

“We understand that the main objective is to ensure the viability of Pescanova and that Pescanova and its jobs have a future,” explained Conde.

The Minister noted that the objective in the first phase “is to ensure the financing need” that the group has and then “address a more complex process of refinancing within the reorganisation proceeding.”

The Galician authorities feel confident that the multinational firm “remains” as “an integral project within what is the value chain of its industry.”

Besides, Galician Vice President Alfonso Rueda insisted that Pescanova must continue “being viable” and required everyone’s efforts to achieve it.

“When the real situation becomes known, we will make decisions. But now this process has not been completed and those who must carry it out are those who have been asked to do so, the reorganisation administrators,” added Rueda.

On the other hand, the National Court judge, Pablo Ruz, set 1 and 2 July as the date for those under indictment to testify. The persons that have been charged are Pescanova chairperson, Manuel Fernández de Sousa, for having used relevant information; the counselor Alfonso Paz-Andrade; and shareholders José Alberto Barreras and José Antonio Pérez-Nievas, EFE agency reported.

Besides, the minority Pescanova shareholders’ attorney, Joaquín Yvancos, confirmed that “it is highly likely” that he will request imprisonment for Fernández de Sousa or the withdrawal of his passport.

“There has been false accounting, he has hidden evidence, he has appointed like-minded people in the subsidiaries, he wants to control the partnership through the subsidiaries, and he is a person who has interests outside the country,” the attorney stated.

Yvancos ensured the minority shareholders of the firm “want the firm to continue” because “if it were sold in pieces, they would lose”. He also acknowledged that “there are thousands of jobs at stake.”
