Galician kiwis improve in size and quality
The partnership between Areeiro’s Phytopathological Station and Kiwi Atlantico’s firms will also focus on the improvement of fruit quality and phytosanitary control, assessing the results of practices such as pruning and other treatments and contributing to determine the optimal moment to pick the fruit.
The process will also allow for kiwis to be presented to consumers with a label informing them about the product’s shelf life.
In Tomiño’s plantations, four areas will be established; one where standard techniques will be applied, and another three where new methods and crop treatments will be tested.
The Phytopathological Station will conduct, during the entire period, sanitary follow-ups and assessments of the plantations, pest and illness control, as well as the taking of samples of fruit in different stages, to determine their characteristics for them to be used in the calibration of the sensors for kiwi sorting.
