A group of factory workers at Alfageme SA in Ribadumia decided to complain about the lack of a resolution of the labour dispute in the canning plant and held a sit-in in the firm’s facilities indefinitely.
Meanwhile, the head of the Commercial Court number 3 of Pontevedra based in Vigo confirmed to the Secretary of the Food Federation of Workers’ Commissions, Francisco Vilar, this is a key week for the industrial and labour future of the company Alfageme.
The canning firm’s employees expect to get a satisfactory response from Xunta de Galicia, the newspaper Faro de Vigo reported.
Last Friday was the expiry date of the deadline granted to the firm Pescamar for it to finish the procedure of the documentation accompanying its offer to take over the cannery.
As soon as the whole process is closed, the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (Igape) must hold an extraordinary board meeting to decide on the tenders submitted by the Grupo Consorcio, Pescamar and Coswinga SL, and to choose one of them.
Later, the report must be sent to the judiciary in order to ‘stop’ the bidding process of the brand Miau.
“After the meeting with the judge, we were trying to talk to Igape because this week is the deadline for the entity to convene the Board and make a proposal to the insolvency administrators,” said Vilar.
“The future of Alfageme does no longer depend on anyone but the Galician regional government,” he added.
Meanwhile, Rosa Abuín, representative of the Galician Inter-Union Confederation (IGC), said the insolvency administrators intend to present the documents at court for the bidding of the factories of Vilaxoán and of Ribadumia to advance, and then to run the liquidation plan, the newspaper La Voz de Galicia reported.
