Illinois woman cast vote while in labor
DOLTON, Ill., Nov. 7 (UPI) — A pregnant Chicago-area woman did not let labor pains keep her out of the voting booth.
Galicia Malone, 21, told the Chicago Sun-Times she realized about 3 a.m. Tuesday she might be delivering her daughter a few days early. When she got to her voting place in Dolton, just south of Chicago, the contractions were only 5 minutes apart.
Malone was voting for the first time.
“This is my first baby, a girl, and I wanted to make a good impression,” Malone said. “I want to have a story to tell her.”
Malone said she disagrees with President Obama on abortion. But she voted for him, partly because of Republican nominee Mitt Romney’s desire to defund the Public Broadcasting System.
“I grew up on Sesame Street and PBS,” she said. “He wants to cut that. What will my daughter grow up on?”
