For anyone who ever thought they were too busy to vote, meet 21-year-old Galicia Malone.

The south suburban Dolton mom-to-be was spotted at her polling place Tuesday morning on her way to give birth at a local hospital.

Cook County Clerk David Orr said Malone’s contractions were five minutes apart when she showed up around 8:30 a.m. at her precinct’s location named, yes, New Life Celebration Church.

The clerk’s office said Malone’s water had already broken when she made the stop to vote in her first presidential election.

“If only all voters showed such determination to vote,” Orr said. “My hat goes off to Galicia for not letting anything get in the way of voting. What a terrific example she is showing for the next generation, especially her new son or daughter.”

Not all voters had such a smooth Election Day experience. Multiple voters reported confusion about which polling location they were assigned to within new district lines, and those who sought online help hit another roadblock.

The Chicago Board of Elections site was “getting deluged with unprecedented levels of traffic,” a spokesman said, and had to be redirected to the state level.

Anyone experiencing problems casting their vote in Chicago should call Election Central at 312-269-7900.
