A 43-year-old man who was apparently assaulted has died three weeks after he was found bleeding along a wooded path in east Charlotte.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police identified the victim as Silvano Melgar-Galicia, and detectives are asking for the public’s help to find information about his death.

Police were called to the 5100 block of Central Avenue just after 2 a.m. Oct. 6 to assist paramedics. When they arrived, officers found Melgar-Galicia unresponsive on the ground on a nearby path. It appeared that he’d been assaulted, police said.

Paramedics took him to Carolinas Medical Center. On Thursday, police learned that Melgar-Galicia had died as a result of his injuries.

Police have released few details about the case, saying that the investigation remains in its early stages. But investigators did reveal that they believe the suspect – or suspects – may speak Spanish.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call detectives at 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
