The Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (Igape) dismissed the appeal against the procedure opened by Xunta de Galicia for those firms that are interested to submit their bids to take over the canning firm Alfageme SA.
According to Galician government sources, after this resolution, which stops the process, Igape will open the three envelopes containing the tenders submitted.
The Institute shall proceed to examine the tenders, based on the compliance with productivity and employment requirements, EFE agency reported.
Subsequently, the analysed material will be sent to the Administrative receiver, which has the final say.
Some of the conditions set are the maintenance of the activity and the conservation of the 150 employees in their jobs for five years.
In addition, at least 100 workers will keep their jobs for the next 10 years, the Ministry of Economy and Industry informed.
The maintenance of EUR 2 million social capital throughout a decade is another condition.
Igape stressed that given the complexity of the process, they are following the “necessary steps” to ensure legal certainty “and to offer a solid base” for the future of the project.
Moreover, Alfageme workers put an end to their demonstration at the plant in Ravella, the newspaper La Voz de Galicia reported.
The employees had initiated the protest last Monday in order to force the regional government to resolve the conflict and expedite the allocation of the company.
The group agreed to put an end to the protest after Vilagarcía Mayor, Tomás Fole, informed that at an extraordinary meeting Igape had decided to reject the appeal filed by the family Lago, owner of the cannery.
Meanwhile, Rosa Abuín, representative of the Galician Inter-Union Confederation (CIG), said that the administrative receivers agreed to delay the auction of the vessels for a few days, waiting for the local government to process the contest and the selection of one of the three companies that were presented.
If there is failure to solve the situation by next week, the protests will be resumed.
