The former owners of the company Alfageme SA filed another appeal, this time, to the bases of the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (Igape) for the sale of the cannery.

The appeal was filed by Lago family through a related company in the Supreme Court on 21 September, Faro de Vigo reported.

While waiting for the legal services of Igape to analyse the written statement in order to issue its report, the two factories belonging to Alfageme — in Vilaxoán and Ribadumia — and the incorporation of the 150 people from its workforce, which remains undefined.

In early October, the Galician government decided to postpone the sale of the cannery until the 18th of this month while waiting for the analysis and drafting of a report on each of the bids submitted for the allocation of the firm and its brand.

The current situation was reported by the Minister of Industry of Xunta de Galicia, Javier Guerra.

The official clarified that the legal services work as swiftly as possible to respond to the appeal.

“Some people do not want to help resolve this situation. In that sense, what we received were three proposals from companies intending to take over the cannery and an appeal. We still have to respond to such appeal,” Guerra explained.

He added: “Right now, the legal services of the Council and those of Igape are analysing it so as to respond to it as well and as quickly as possible so that we can close the process.”

“Different aspects are used, in this case, it is a company linked to Lago family, who are questioning various parts of the process,” the counselor commented.

Guerra stressed that they are “absolutely sure” that the process is correct, but must proceed administratively and respond to that appeal.

The three companies interested in acquiring Alfageme’s assets are Grupo Consorcio, Pescamar and Coswinga SL.
