The Government of Galicia will postpone the sale of Alfageme SA until 18 October, pending the analysis and drafting of a report from each of the bids submitted for the allocation of the canning firm and its brand. This technical report will be issued by technicians of the Galician Institute for Economic Development (Igape).

Xunta de Galicia, the main creditor the company has, made this decision while Igape is waiting for a few days in case proposals are processed by mail or single window, the newspaper Faro de Vigo reported.

Until September there was only one purchase proposal submitted by the Canning Consortium, which already had a favorable report from the Independent Administration.

However, in the last remaining days for the deadline, there was another presentation by the Galician canning company Pescamar, and in the sector it was also rumoured there would be an additional party interested in buying Alfageme.

Pescamar manager, Lupe Murillo said they hope to expand their product offer in the market and enable Alfageme to continue being a Galician canning group, Diario de Pontevedra reports.

Initially, it was expected that on 11 October the Council of the Regional Government would adopt the agreement to authorize the sale of the cannery firm. It is now estimated that bureaucratic procedures will postpone that decision until Thursday 18 October.

Meanwhile Alfageme union representatives claim that the local government should solve this situation, since the bankruptcy and liquidation processes of the canning firm have taken too long. The plant workers have been waiting for two years to see what happens with their jobs.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Economy and Industry, Javier Guerra, agreed to sell the two plants belonging to Alfageme, located in Ribadumia and Vilaxoán as well as the brand, to the firm that is able to guarantee the maintenance of the 150 consolidated jobs and that provides adequate safeguards to ensure that these positions are stable.
