The Cabreiroa Pantin Classic Pro came to an end on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Playa de Pantin in Galicia, Spain. The surfing contest originally got underway on Wednesday, September 12, 2012. Over the course of several days, the field of surfers was whittled down until just a handful of competitors remained. Here’s a quick look at some of the final results:

Men’s Quarterfinals Results

The men’s quarterfinals kicked off on Sunday in style. Heat 1 was incredible. It featured Joan Duru (FRA), Medi Veminardi (REU), Bino Lopes (BRA) and Nic Von Rupp (DEU). Joan Duru opened up the surf heat with a gorgeous 9.33 point ride. I thought that he displayed a lot of confidence and skill. He backed it up with a 6.67 point ride. Bino Lopes managed to deliver a 7.13 point ride and Medi Veminardi fired off a 6.93 point ride. In the end, Joan Duru won the surf heat with 16 points. It was the highest surf heat score of the quarterfinals.

Men’s Semifinals Results

In my opinion, when it came to the men’s semifinals, Heat 2 delivered the most excitement. It featured surfers Nathan Hedge (AUS), Marlon Lipke (DEU), Ty Watson (AUS) and Jonathan Gonzalez (CNY). Three out of the four surfers turned up the heat and busted out high scores. Although, if you ask me, each of the surfers did the best that they could with the swell that was on offer. Jonathan Gonzalez’s best wave was a powerful 9.10 point ride. I thought that it was on point. Ty Watson’s best wave was an 8.50 point ride and Marlon Lipke delivered an 8.43 point ride. Marlon Lipke eventually won the surf heat with 15.50 points.

Men’s Final Results

Once the semifinals wrapped up, it all boiled down to four surfers. The final surf heat featured Ty Watson (AUS), Marlon Lipke (DEU), Joan Duru (FRA) and Bino Lopes (BRA). I was hoping for another surf heat filled with high scores but it was not to be. Marlon Lipke started out strong by posting a 5.33 point ride and an 8.33 point ride. The other surfers tried to answer back in kind but were largely unsuccessful. Bino Lopes managed to fire off a 5.57 point ride. Joan Duru answered back with a 4.87 point ride and a 4.17 point ride. Ty Watson’s best wave was a 3.43 point ride. Marlon Lipke ultimately won the surf heat with 13.66 points.
