The Cabreiroa Pantin Classic Pro resumed on Sunday, September 16, 2012 in Galicia, Spain. The surfers were faced with overcast skies, no wind and waves in the three to four foot range. Here’s a brief rundown on some of the latest results:

Women’s Final Results

The women’s surfing competition came to an end on Saturday afternoon. The final surf heat was between Sage Erickson (USA) and Alizee Arnaud (FRA). Sage Erickson was on fire throughout the entire surf heat. She opened up the surf heat with a 6.83 point ride and an 8.50 point ride. Then she backed it up in the waning moments of the surf heat with a 7.60 point ride. Alizee Arnaud was unable to respond in kind. In the end, Sage Erickson won the surf heat with 16.10 points.

Men’s Round 32 Results

Round 32 of the men’s surfing competition kicked off on Sunday with a matchup between Connor O’Leary (AUS), Manuel Selman (CHL), Nic Von Rupp (DEU) and Jordin Watson (AUS). Nic Von Rupp won the surf heat with 11.10 points. His best waves were a 5.67 point ride and a 5.43 point ride. He is slated to surf later this afternoon in Heat 1 of the quarterfinals.

If you ask me, Heat 3 was bittersweet. It featured surfers Bino Lopes (BRA), Messias Felix (BRA), Adrien Valero (FRA) and Nobuyuki Osawa (JPN). I was rooting for both Messias Felix and Bino Lopes. Unfortunately, they didn’t do as well as I had hoped. Adrien Valero won the surf heat with 14.17 points. His best waves were a 5.50 point ride and an 8.67 point ride.

Heat 4 featured Joan Duru (FRA), Vincent Duvignac (FRA), Gony Zubizarreta (ESP) and Jatyr Berasaluce (EUK). Joan Duru started out strong by delivering a powerful 8 point ride. Gony Zubizarreta tried to answer back. He fired off a huge floater that ended badly. His landing broke his surfboard. As such, he had to leave the water and run onto the beach in search of a new one.

Vincent Duvignac, however, did manage to answer back with a 5.67 point ride. It was enough to knock Joan Duru into 2nd place. Duvignac kept his momentum going by catching another wave. He utilized it to fire off a series of powerful turns and a fabulous floater. It earned him 9.87 points and solidified his lead. He ultimately won the surf heat with 15.54 points. Vincent Duvignac is expected to surf again in Heat 2 of the quarterfinals.

What’s Next?

The Cabreiroa Pantin Classic Pro is expected to end later this afternoon. Surf fans will be able to watch the final matchup on the event’s website. Personally, I am hoping that Bino Lopes (BRA) at least makes it into the semifinals. Of course the semifinals line-up won’t be determined until later today. On a guaranteed happy note, once the Cabreiroa Pantin Classic Pro ends, fans won’t have to wait too long for the next surfing competition to start. The Hurley Pro is expected to kick off in California later today and run through Saturday, September 22, 2012.

Killeen Gonzalez enjoys watching water sports with her family. She also has a history of interviewing pro surfers.
