ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development 6 (DSWD-6)’s next target beneficiaries for its modified Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program are the thousands of “street families” in Western Visayas. DSWD-6 Asst. Director Joel Galicia said there are about 1,400 identified families living on streets all over the region, 400 of which are in Iloilo City and will be covered once the program is implemented. Galicia said a good thing about the modified CCT is the extended age coverage from 15-17 years old. The regular CCT covers children aged 0-14 years old only.
LIVELIHOOD PROJECT
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PNA) — The Franciscan Sisters of the Poor and the Saint Catherine of Alexandria Parish of the Diocese of Dumaguete have embarked on a livelihood project for the poor and beggars who are recipients of the parish’s feeding program. Such project aims to help said beneficiaries earn money to enable them a decent living and boost their dignity. Adult beneficiaries will be involved in making plant boxes from discarded wood pieces while women beggars will be taught simple skills like hand-sewing, crocheting and cross stitching. The existing feeding program will also be continued while out-of-school youth will have regular classes on the second floor of the Marian Priest Center through the Alternative Learning System (ALS) of the Department of Education.

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — Philippine National Police (PNP)-Tobias Fornier members treated 74 indigenous children of Sitio Igcaputol, Barangay Poblacio, Tobias Fornier, Antique to a free meal to mark the 18th National Crime Prevention Week. The kids were pupils of Igcaputol Multi-Grade School in the barangay, which has complete elementary education facility from kindergarten to grade six handled by only four teachers. It is half a kilometer away from the poblacion and only caters to education needs of indigenous people (IPs) or locally known as “Ati.” The sitio is a relocation site provided by government for the IP and one of seven IP communities in the area.
DESIGN CONTEST
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — The Regional Information Communication Technology Committee (RICTC) or Eastern Visayas Federation for IT (EVFIT) of the Regional Development Council in Eastern Visayas is inviting participants to the Logo Design and Tagline Making Contest now ongoing until Oct. 1. Contest purpose is to design a new EVFIT logo. The competition is open to Eastern Visayas residents who may submit a maximum of five designs as an individual or team. Those interested may go to the EVFIT Facebook page and download a copy of the contest mechanics. Entries will be assessed by a judges panel comprised of EVFIT members.
COP DETAINED
LAMBUNAO, Iloilo (PNA) — A police officer was arrested and ordered detained after he shot dead a civilian in Lambunao, Iloilo over the weekend. Arrested was PO3 Artemio Sayam y Latumbo, 47, single, of Brgy. Paho, Lambunao, assigned at the Regional Service Group of the Police Regional Office 6, Camp Martin Delgado, this city. Victime Ruben Puyo, 22, of Brgy. Bontoc, Lambunao was drinking with Sayam inside a food court at the public plaza when a heated argument of unknown cause erupted between the two, resulting to Sayam’s fatal shooting of Puyo who was rushed to the local hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
