Young Spanish rider Alex Marquez has been officially announced as Ambrogio Next’s new rider from Indianapolis until the end of the season.

Marquez, the younger brother of Moto2 championship leader Marc Marquez, has already impressed in his wild-card appearances for the Estrella Galicia 0,0 Suter Honda team, scoring points at Jerez and Estoril and putting a sixth place finish to his name at the Catalunya grand prix.

The 16-year-old Catalan currently holds the lead in the CEV Buckler Moto3 Spanish championship for Monlau Competicion on a Repsol, CatalunyaCaixa and Estrella Galicia sponsored Honda.

It has not yet been announced if he will also now continue to attempt to take that title – which remains a possibility as the remaining rounds do not clash with his new Moto3 responsibilities.

Marquez will join Swiss rider Guilian Pedone in the team, which also uses a Suter Honda after switching from Oral earlier in the season.

The Ambrogio Next Racing team issued a very short statement on the change:

“Alex Marquez will partner Giulian Pedone in the Moto3 Championship for the Ambrogio Next Racing team since the forthcoming Indianapolis Grand Prix. The relationship with Simone Grotzkyj has come to a halt.”

The Indianapolis round takes place from 17-19 August.
