The first snag came when it was discovered that the masts would not fit under the internet cable that had been installed close to the slipway to service the Cafe Buerger (I’m sure that didn’t happen in 1492). While the problem was tackled, Columbus’ crew adjourned to the cocktail stall, which served a mean mojito.

By the time they were reassembled, it was clear they were in no fit condition to cross the estuary, let alone the Atlantic. After a launch that was more of a controlled capsize, they gave up the unequal struggle and two hours later could be found at the marina bar, downing copious quantities of wine.

So the New World will remain undiscovered for another year.
