The Ministry of Rural and Marine Affairs of Xunta de Galicia decided to close 34 mussel farming polygons due to the presence of diarrheal toxin (DSP) in local waters.
After discovering and analyzing the contaminated specimens, the Technological Institute for the Control of Marine Environment (Intecmar) issued a report which prohibits the capture of bivalve molluscs grown in the floating nurseries of the Galician polygons.
The authority reported that only 16 polygons are still operating in Galicia for capture, sale and consumption, the newspaper Faro de Vigo reported.
