People who own a home near one of Spain’s award-winning beaches can benefit from the positive image this generates.

Marc Pritchard, sales and marketing manager at Taylor Wimpey de Espana, pointed out the nation holds 638 Blue Flags, an increase on the 603 it received during 2011.

“These esteemed awards will signal good news for property owners as homes within close proximity to a Blue Flag beach will expect to retain a higher value over time and see greater rental appeal,” he asserted.

Galicia is one region that has performed particularly well in terms of the cleanliness of its sandy stretches and sea water, receiving 143 Blue Flags in total in 2012.

Catalunya and Comunidad Valencia also picked up more than 100 of these accolades each, which could make them good targets for buyers seeking beachside property in Spain.

Mr Pritchard pointed out the quality of the country’s beaches is one of the big attractions for the tourists, so an increase in the number of Blue Flags awarded could help boost its appeal as a holiday destination.
