The global economic crisis has been severely affecting Europe and bodyboarding has suffered an important cut in its budget. In 2012, the European leg of the IBA World Tour will be smaller.

Organizers of the iconic 6-Star Ferrol Pro have cancelled the event surfed in the waves of the Galicia region, in Spain. Toni Obenza has confirmed there will be no contest this year.

“This 6-Star GQS was a vital part of the Qualifying Series, particularly for the GSS re-qualifiers, so we will look at all other options to fill the gap including a potential new event in Peniche”, said Terry McKenna, IBA World Tour manager.

“Toni Obenza has been a great suporter of the IBA for the last five years and he is sad to make this announcement”, adds the Australian.

Meanwhile, the Sintra Portugal Pro has also suffered massive funding cuts and has cancelled the Drop-Knen. Also, at this point, the Women’s Grand Slam is not yet confirmed.

The Sintra Portugal Pro is one of the longest running and most successful events on Tour. The contest is schedule to kick off from August 25th to September 2nd.
