April not the cruellest month at all for Spanish TV consumption

April 2012 was the largest television audience in Spain’s history, recording 254 minutes per person per day, a figure that represents one minute and eighteen minutes more than March and the same month last year respectively.

According to the data from Kantar Media Communications, Andalusia, with 272 minutes per person per day, leads the regional ranking of the time spent watching television, while Galicia has the lowest with 229 minutes.Consumption by DTT (80.5%) was up four tenths from the previous month, a monthly record, while the satellite down three (4.7%) and cable also two tenths down in April (14.7 %).

Football was the most watched content type in April 2012 with the Champions League match between Barcelona and Chelsea at the top, attracting to 55. 8% of the audience or 11,271,000 viewers. The match between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, also broadcast by the 1 channel, this month won a second place among the most watched, with a peak audience of 51.6% and 10,165,000 viewers.

In all the hearings strings RTVE’s La 1 and Mediaset España’s Telecinco have shared the spotlight, both chains achieving 13% of audience share.
