In the Whittell softball team’s senior appreciation game Wednesday, seniors received the opportunity to choose their position. And the Lakers nearly made them pay for it.
The Warriors eked out a 14-12 win, but not before having to come from behind after North Tahoe scored six runs in the fifth to take an 8-6 lead.
“It was risky but it’s senior day,” said Whittell head coach Dave Galicia. “It was a lot closer than what we wanted, but we wanted our seniors to have fun and let them play what they want to play.”
Senior Megan Miller, the everyday shortstop for Whittell, took the rubber in the fifth inning and was tagged by the Lakers for six runs in the frame.
The Warriors fought back in the bottom of the sixth inning, however, bringing in eight runs to take a 14-8 lead into the seventh.
North Tahoe managed to pull within two runs, but that was as close as the Lakers could get.
